Hypnotherapy benefits clients most where the cause of the problem is psychologically based. If someone presents with a problem that could have an organic origin it is important for them to get a medical diagnosis. For example, some medicines can cause panic attacks or insomnia, or a potential client wants treatment for headaches that they attribute to stress but it could be a sign of something more serious. Where there are doubts, the hypnotherapist will refer clients to their GP or other practitioners.

Hypnotherapists work in conjunction with medical and dental professionals. In that sense, they are 'complementary' rather than 'alternative' practitioners...
