The Psychology of Patient Change:
A New Lens for Change Conversations!
Â
Â
Â
Sound all too familiar...?
You care deeply about your patients — but some still don’t engage the way you’d hoped?Â
You're a compassionate practitioner who’s perturbed by the people your usual methods don’t reach?
Some coping styles make change conversations more challenging and many compassionate health professionals feel frustrated when some clients seem unmotivated, 'resistant', or disengaged — despite their best efforts and evidence-based advice.
The Psychology of Patient Change reframes these difficult encounters through a modern understanding of coping, safety, and readiness.
Participants learn why traditional directive communication can backfire with certain patients, and how to use psychologically attuned strategies that restore trust, motivation, and agency.
Learn how psychology can help you adapt your approach and engage patients your current tools can't.Â

The Psychology of Patient Change gives you an evidence-based framework to understand why people resist change — and how to communicate differently with each psychological coping pattern. Â
Through this flagship training you'll be introduced to new, evidence-based ways of communicating with people whose coping patterns make change hard to kick start and sustain.Â
Â
As a health or medical professional you'll be equipped to:
• Understand the hidden coping patterns that drive resistance (e.g., unmitigated agency, unmitigated communion, avoidant coping, pessimistic attribution, rumination).
• Communicate in ways that meet clients where they are — without confrontation or exhaustion.
• Reignite motivation, restore connection, and protect your own empathy and wellbeing.
Â
Karen’s teaching style blends clinical depth with clarity and compassion. She’s known for translating complex psychological concepts into language clinicians can use the next day — and for creating learning spaces that feel safe, reflective, and practical.
