Hypnotherapy to help effectively manage endometriosis

Endometriosis is a chronic condition associated with severe pain, abdominal bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes depression, anxiety, and infertility. It involves having tissue resembling endometrium (the lining of the uterus) outside the uterus which causes a chronic inflammatory reaction that may result in scar tissue forming (adhesions, fibrosis) within the pelvis and other parts of the body.1

1 in 10 women of reproductive age are affected by it (approx. 190 million women/girls worldwide)2 and although not a lot is known about what causes it, the risk factors associated with the condition have been found to be genetic.

People typically suffer for years with symptoms before getting a diagnosis, which requires laparoscopic surgery to diagnose correctly.3

Although endometriosis isn’t curable, symptoms can be effectively managed to improve wellbeing and quality of life.4 This will typically include medication to focus on either lowering estrogen or increasing progesterone to change hormonal environments that promote endometriosis, surgery to remove endometriosis lesions, adhesions, and scar tissue.

The severe pain is very debilitating and affects women physically, emotionally, cognitively, socially, behaviourally, and financially costing the average woman over $12,000 per year in lost earnings. Hypnotherapy is one of the best methods of managing the symptoms and helping women and their families to lead a better quality and fulfilling life by reducing stress, increasing exercise, developing better coping strategies to manage the pain and its effects, as well as managing dietary changes.
